This place is to sushi is what McDonalds is to hamburgers. The only exception is that they are charging top dollar for food that gives sushi a bad name. If you ever had a friend who does not like sushi, chances are they ate it here. On the multiple occasions I have gotten it, the rice was terrible. Most sushi aficionados know that rice is the most important part of sushi. This rice was inconsistent. Some pieces were too sweet, some dry, some too vinegary. On a positive note, the place is clean and I did not get food poisoning. They also have a happy hour menu that lowers the price of the sushi from ridiculous to just expensive.

Not a review of the food but of the people... I've travelled 7,200 miles and 30+ states on a motorcycle in the last three weeks. I can honestly say that talking with Leon and his wife was one of the absolute highlights. Conversation ranged from British vs American English education to literature, The Hero's Journey to the notion of there only being seven core story concepts, writing journals to writing fiction, families to travel. The hours at until 9:30. I got in at 9:15 and they told me I was welcome to stay until 10. We actually talked until well after 10:30. I wonder how many locals, as I'm sure I do at home, must come in, order, eat and leave without ever thinking about the people serving. Take the time to talk and there are wonderful experiences to be had. It's these things that elevate a place from a place to eat to a place to visit with friends. I highly recommend talking with these great people.

A good little sushi place! The spring rolls with the peanut sauce are great and taste very fresh. A good selection of all types of rolls. It's a family run place and they are super friendly and helpful. Is it pricey? I would say average for sushi, you aren't going to get cheap sushi and enjoy it. I wouldn't go off the poor reviews of this place, my wife and I come here fairly often and have yet to experience anything bad. Like on reviewer said, it's a good everyday sushi place and I agree!!!

Didn't even walk in the door when I saw the sign that said no public restrooms. No wonder the place was empty.

There are four dedicated locations for Sushi in Northwest Iowa (not weekly "sushi night" restaurants), Sushi Bamboo, Japanese Steakhouse, Mr. Stir Fry and Fuji Bay, all in Sioux City. There are pros and cons to all, however if you are looking for a "fast food sushi" type of location that has great food and great service, where you don't have a table server and consequently are not socially obligated to pay higher dollar server gratuity, Sushi Bamboo is your best choice. "Leon", the owner and manager and his assistant and cousin "Jade" do a tremendous job keeping you happy- which becomes quickly evident when they bring out your complementary cup of tasty miso soup with every meal. I have had GREAT sushi in many locations- Buddha Sushi in The British Virgin Islands, Sushi Roku in Phoenix, Ra Sushi in Atlanta, Sushi Dan in Los Angeles, Tsunami Sushi in Salt Lake, Sushi in the Raw in Nevada City California, to name a few greats. Although Sushi Bamboo is not a gourmet sushi location by any means, their great selection of rolls, wonderful service and value make it an excellent choice.

Do they cook their rice in coconut milk or something? Their sushi was barely palatable because of it! It was way too sweet, lacked vinegar, and was mushy. I can't believe they have 4 stars, the small sushi joint at the mall is better than this place! Service was excellent though, super nice people.

Friendly staff, large selection, reasonable prices, and great tasting sushi and crab rangoon!

My sister and I drove here from Vermillion, SD for sushi one night last week. We had a shrimp tempura roll and a spicy salmon roll. I also had a seaweed salad. The seaweed salad was pretty standard and didn't stand out compared to others I've had. It was a large quantity for the price; I could barely finish it plus 1/2 of a roll. The shrimp tempura roll was OK; I've had much better. But for a small little place in Iowa, this place is ok. The staff tries hard to please, bringing you complimentary miso soup. The prices are reasonable. It's cute and clean inside.

I like this place for take out sushi rolls. The rice is sweeter than I'm used to, but is OK for the price. My husband thinks it is great. The rolls are mostly less than $6 or $7 and the other items are around the same price. Everything is made fresh and quick, but I've never been in when it is busy, and all I've ordered is rolls and edamame. Decor is definitely tropical feeling but CLEAN!!! Maybe it is because it is new, but is refreshing. You order at the counter and then pick up your order at the counter. I don't know if they serve you if you are staying. There is a fast food feeling about it even though I know it is all made to order.

Sushi Bamboo is a surprisingly good little Japanese restaurant. The restaurant offers a varied menu with a large selection of items to choose from. I especially like the steak rolls. The decor is a little strange, with Southern California surfer motif mixed with Asian touches. Parking is ample and free. The staff is helpful and seems genuinely happy to see you as a customer. It's not unusual for the staff to bring you items to try for free. I usually prefer this Japanese restaurant over Fuji Bay here in Sioux City.

This place is Clean!! And the service is really good, granted we are the only ones there for lunch. I like the seaweed salad, especially for it's price. The sushi deluxe is good, where the scallop was much better than expected and the rest pretty ok. Given that I have been spoiled by San Francisco sushi scene. However, I will definitely not recommend the miso soup. But you should try their chicken on a stick thingy.
